Tokyo Jazz Joints – Book Launch!

Come and meet the author, photographer and co-creator of the Tokyo Jazz Joints project, Philip Arneill, for a book signing session which will be followed by a jazz session behind the decks!

As I have already written, Rhinoçéros would not be the bar that it is, without the work of Philip Arneill and James Catchpole, aka Tokyo Jazz Joints.
Their influence goes beyond the simple reporting and documentation of jazz bars in Japan. Today the number of new openings of “listening bars“ (and I don’t like that term) influenced by jazz kissa is not unrelated to the wide and well-deserved dissemination of their work (website, events and podcasts).
But this would also take away from the quality of Philip’s photographic work, his sense of detail and atmosphere. The long-awaited publication of this photography book is a natural evolution from the website and podcast, as it always should have been. What emotion to browse these pages and immerse yourself in these incredible atmospheres which come to us from Japan via Philip’s lens.
