Flatland Prayer – LIVE

January 12 @ 6:30 PM

We are proud to present Flatland Prayer – live in session for the very first Sunday Service at Rhinocéros!

Flatland Prayer reimagines songwriting in a free-improv context. The eclectic trio is firmly rooted in the traditions of American jazz and folk, though always with one foot forward into avant-garde scene. Though their influences are broad-reaching, Flatland Prayer has a cohesive sound, with all the clarity and tenderness of the musicians behind it.

Flatland Prayer is already making a name for themselves in the European jazz scene. This is as much to do with their musicianship as their unique approach to performance, in which every through-composed set has its own narrative flow, readily incorporating elements of performance art, visuals, and spoken word. For a performance at the Bimhuis as a part of Jazzfest Amsterdam on the 6th of January, bassist River Adomeit composed “FANATIC,” an Americana suite exploring far-right extremism. On the heels of their debut album, “Like Staring Straight into the Sun,” Flatland Prayer is now embarking on their first international tour, bringing their unique sound to broader audiences in the Netherlands, Germany, and Austria.

The Sunday Service at Rhinoceros is a series of live concerts in a small acoustic or minimally amplified setting. Infused with the essence of jazz and maybe the spirit of John Coltrane, it invites musical talents in an intimate space to create a communal experience. Through shared vibrations and soulful harmonies, it calls for a sense of unity, awakening consciousness and a connection to beauty. We hope to hold Sunday Service once per season.
