(IG bossasundays)  \nThis evening is dedicated to Brazilian bossa jazz (or samba jazz)\, a genre that evolved in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in the early sixties of the twentieth century in the aftermath of bossa nova. The musical style is characterized by a unique fusion of Brazilian music\, such as bossa nova and samba\, with improvisation\, swing\, and syncopation of American jazz. \nThe origins of bossa nova can be traced back to a group of young musicians in Rio de Janeiro who were inspired by American jazz and traditional Brazilian music. While João Gilberto and Antônio Carlos Jobim shaped and popularized the genre worldwide since 1958\, another group of young jazz musicians in Rio de Janeiro and Saõ Paulo found a unique musical expression of their own. They hit Brazilian dance floors and gained international fame in the 60s. Tonight’s playlist plays tribute to those young jazz musicians\, artists like Sérgio Mendes\, J.T. Meirelles\, Edison Machado\, Dom Um Romão\, Zimbo Trio\, Tamba Trio\, Milton Banana Trio.  \n

DESCRIPTION:Presented by Vito Nicholas \nAt his high-flying\, raw\, prodigious best\, Lee has the sound of a man whose doctor told him ‘You’ve got to play everything today because you won’t get the chance tomorrow.’ \nGoing toe-to-toe with the likes of Coltrane\, Gillespie\, Shorter\, McLean\, Lee is shorthand for a virtuoso and a man on fire.  His reputation as trumpet player is matched by his deft\, tender and imaginative touch as a composer. \nHe achieved more in his thirty-three years than most men achieve in a lifetime. He joined Dizzy Gillespie’s band when he was just 18\, played on Coltrane’s Blue Train when he was 19\, and recorded 25 albums as a band leader on Blue Note. \nNot sticking to just Lee’s discography – and hence the name for the evening\, Usual Suspect\, I will be playing a few albums Lee appears on – particularly his work with John Coltrane\, Art Blakey and Jackie McLean. \nThis is an Evening Dedicated \nCome early as it is first come first served and seating is limited. \nNeedle drop at 20:00 \n
