Jazz Cat Symposium – Oren Ambarchi – Shebang (2022)

For the next edition of our ”Symposium For Jazzcats“, we’re teaming up with Niclas Gillich and his ”Patterns Radio“ project.
On this occasion, our guest has selected Australian composer and experimental guitarist Oren Ambarchi’s latest record ”Shebang“, released in October 2022 via Drag City, and recorded in collaboration with a cast of musicians, including BJ Cole, Jim O’Rourke, Julia Reidy and Joe Talia, among others.
Musically situated somewhere between Steve Reich, Pat Metheny and Talk Talk, the record succeeds in seamlessly merging minimalism, contemporary electronics, and ECM-reminiscent jazz elements, resulting in a mesmerizing sonic tour de force, perfectly suited for an enriching deep listening experience.
Patterns Radio is a monthly broadcast on Radio 80000 in Munich and Movement Radio in Athens, as well as an event series and record label in the making, curated and hosted by Athens-based artist, DJ and musician Niclas Gillich.
